UŽHOROD – On Saturday, January 12,2013 in the Greek Catholic Cathedral of Holy Cross of the Eparchy of Mukachevo, Father Yuriy Nil Luscak, OFM was ordained to the episcopacy and appointed Auxiliary Bishopof the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo.The principal consecrating bishop was Bishop Milan Šašik, Bishop of the Eparchy of Mukachevo.Co-consecrators included Archbishop Cyril Vasyl, Secretary of the Congregation of Eastern Churches, and Metropolitan William Skurla of the Byzantine Catholic Church of Pittsburgh,USA.

Pilgrimage of the Mukachevo Eparchy faithful to the Vatican

Over 400 pilgrims from Transcarpathia visited Rome and Vatican City in Italy from December 11 - 18, 2011. In 2011, our Mukachevo Eparchy celebrated a chain of jubilees related to the Blessed Martyr Theodore Romzha: the 100th year of his birth; the 75th year of his priestly ordination and the 10th year of his beatification. For that reason among many others, a pilgrimage to Rome was planned, where also 75 years ago Blessed Theodore was ordained as a priest. And God made it happen so that exactly this year, in 2011, and not in 2012 as was earlier planned, the Christmas tree for Saint Peter's Square was chosen from Theodore’s native Transcarpathia.

Three Days of Blessed Theodore Romzha

The Eparchy of Mukachevo held a three day celebration to mark the Jubilee year of +Blessed Theodore Romzha. The celebration took place from June 26 - 28, 2011. Remembering the 100th anniversary of +Blessed Theodore's birth (1911), the tenth anniversary of his beatification as "blessed" (2001) and the 75th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood (1936), the three days were jointly led by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches, His Eminence, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri of Rome and the bishop of the Eparchy of Mukachevo, Most Reverend Milan Sasik, CM.

Eparchy celebrates some turning (critical) dates in its history.

On the occasion of 60th anniversary of forceful liquidation of the Greek Catholic Church in Transcarpathia and 20th Anniversary of the renewal of the public activity of Mukachevo eparchy there was organized an International Scientific Conference “Persecuted Church” that took place on 26 June 2009 in Uzhgorod. Conference attended theologians and secular scientists from Rome, Ukraine, Slovakia, United States and Hungary. Liturgical services and night vigil with active participation of clergy, religious and faithful believers took place on the territory of Uzhgorod Blessed Theodore Romzha Theological Academy.

On Saturday, 27 June there were celebrated following church services: Matins, Parastasa, and Holy Rosary. Culmination moment of the celebrities became Episcopal Divine Liturgy led by His Grace Archbishop Cyril (Vasyl) TI, secretary of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches (Roma), and his concelebrants were bishops: Milan (Sasik) CM, Apostolic Administrator of Mukachevo Eparchy, Petro (Stasjuk), CSsR, Eparch of the SS Peter and Paul Eparchy in Melbourne (Australia), Petro (Rusnak), Eparch of Bratislava (Slovakia), Philip (Kochish), Eparch of Hyidudorog (Hungary), Vitaliy (Skomarovsjkiy), auxiliary bishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr Diocese, bishop Taras (Senjkiv), auxiliary bishop of Striy Eparchy, Joseph (Miljan), auxiliary bishop of Kyiv Archdiocese, Evgeniy (Kochish) auxiliary bishop-emeritus of Prague Ekzarchat (Czech republic). At the beginning of the Divine Liturgy was read out greeting message of His Eminence Tarsicio Cardinal Bertone, Vatican State Secretary. Sermon was given by Archbishop Cyril Vasyl. At the close of the Liturgy Very Reverend Protosynkel Taras Lovska read out epistle of His Grace Archbishop Ivan Yurkovich, Apostolic Nuncios in Ukraine, that couldn’t take part in celebrities due to legitimate reason.

After that took place the Way of the Cross by the streets of Uzhgorod (photos) with the relics of Blessed Martyr Theodore Romzha, Bishop of Mukachevo. In front of the Episcopal Residence, next to the monument stone-board to the repressed clergy was served Panachida, and right after in the Cathedral church – devotion prayer to Blessed Theodore Romzha.
In the evening of that same day in the church of Transference of the relics of the Blessed Theodore Romzha there was served Great Vespers with Litia and prayer vigil.

On Sunday, 28 June celebration of the Transference of the relics of the Blessed Theodore Romzha began with Matins at the same church. During the Episcopal Divine Liturgy Bishop Milan consecrated to priesthood deacon Dmitro Tulay from Uzhgorod and Mykhaylo Popovich from Iljnyca, Irshava deanery and also consecrated to deaconate sub deacon Yurij Paljukh from Radekhiv, Lviv region. In the celebrations were engaged near 4500 people.
