Father Nil Yuriy Luschak OFM Ordained as Auxuliary Bishop of Mukachevo

UŽHOROD – On Saturday, January 12,2013 in the Greek Catholic Cathedral of Holy Cross of the Eparchy of Mukachevo, Father Yuriy Nil Luscak, OFM was ordained to the episcopacy and appointed Auxiliary Bishopof the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo.The principal consecrating bishop was Bishop Milan Šašik, Bishop of the Eparchy of Mukachevo.Co-consecrators included Archbishop Cyril Vasyl, Secretary of the Congregation of Eastern Churches, and Metropolitan William Skurla of the Byzantine Catholic Church of Pittsburgh,USA.

Pilgrimage of the Mukachevo Eparchy faithful to the Vatican

Over 400 pilgrims from Transcarpathia visited Rome and Vatican City in Italy from December 11 - 18, 2011. In 2011, our Mukachevo Eparchy celebrated a chain of jubilees related to the Blessed Martyr Theodore Romzha: the 100th year of his birth; the 75th year of his priestly ordination and the 10th year of his beatification. For that reason among many others, a pilgrimage to Rome was planned, where also 75 years ago Blessed Theodore was ordained as a priest. And God made it happen so that exactly this year, in 2011, and not in 2012 as was earlier planned, the Christmas tree for Saint Peter's Square was chosen from Theodore’s native Transcarpathia.

Three Days of Blessed Theodore Romzha

The Eparchy of Mukachevo held a three day celebration to mark the Jubilee year of +Blessed Theodore Romzha. The celebration took place from June 26 - 28, 2011. Remembering the 100th anniversary of +Blessed Theodore's birth (1911), the tenth anniversary of his beatification as "blessed" (2001) and the 75th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood (1936), the three days were jointly led by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches, His Eminence, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri of Rome and the bishop of the Eparchy of Mukachevo, Most Reverend Milan Sasik, CM.

Most Reverend Bishop Milan – new ruling Bishop of Mukachevo

On Saturday, April 24 there took place solemn Episcopal enthronement of the Most Reverend Bishop Milan to the cathedra of the Mukachevo eparchy at the Exaltation of the Holy Cross cathedral church in Uzhgorod.

In the beginning His Excellency Archbishop Ivan Jurkovich, Apostolic nuncio in Ukraine in presence of His Excellency Archbishop Ciril Vasil, Secretary of the Congregation of the Eastern Churches from Vatican publicly read out Papal bull (official letter) about the nomination of the new Bishop Ordinary of Mukachevo and solemnly delivered him Episcopal rod. Nuncio introduced Bishop Milan to the ancient Episcopal throne, established yet over 200 years ago in time of Bishop Andrey Bachinskiy. Afterwards representatives of the clergy, religious and laics of Mukachevo eparchy showed their honor and homage to the new ruling Bishop.

After the rite of enthronement there was celebrated Episcopal Divine Liturgy together with 22 Bishops of the Universal Catholic Church and almost all the clergy of Mukachevo eparchy. This Holy Liturgy is a public establishment of government of the Bishop who now rules the eparchy not only in the name of the Holy See that is as administrator, but also in his own name, as authorized ruling Bishop-Ordinary of the Mukachevo eparchy.

During the Holy Liturgy His Excellency Archbishop Ivan Jurkovich delivered the sermon in which he highly estimated fruitful pastoral care of the Most Reverend Bishop Milan and indicated great role of the eparchial Bishop in the local church.

After the Liturgy Bishop Milan was greeted in the name (ex parte) of Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation of the Eastern Churches by the Archbishop Ciril Vasil from Rome.  Archbishop Mjechislav Mokshitskiy, L’viv Metropolitan of the Latin rite greeted Bishop Milan in the name of episcopate, clergy and laics of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine. Bishop Bogdan Dzjurakh from Kyiv greeted new eparch in the name of His Beatitude Cardinal Ljubomyr Huzar, the Sovereign Archbishop of Kyiv-Gilicia and in the mane of all the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Bishop Shandor Zan-Fabian greeted Bishop Milan in the name of the Reformation Church of Transcarpathia.

Mr. Ivan Kachur, assistant of the Head of the Regional State Administration greeted Bishop Milan in the name of Transcarpathian Regional Council and Regional State Administration. Also Vladyka Milan was greeted by the representatives of eparchial clergy, religious, laics and youth.

That same day took place the opening of the memorial board of Bishop Andrey Bachinskiy on the square, which is named in his honor and also the consecration of the attic floor of the Episcopal Residence.
